In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 St. Paul gives us a description of what love means in Christian terms.  Read each line slowly and carefully, as if you have never read it before.

"Love is patient;

Love is kind.

Love is not jealous,

it does not put on airs,

it is not snobbish.

Love is never rude,

it is not self-seeking,

it is not prone to anger;

neither does it brood over injuries.

Love does not rejoice in what is wrong

but rejoices with the truth.

There is no limit to love's forbearance,

to its trust,

its hope,

its power to endure."

Take the Love Test

Below you will find the same verses on love that you read above. This time the word "love" or the pronoun "its," which refers to love, is missing. Read each line slowly once again, but this time insert your own name in each of the blanks and consider if these statements are true about you. (This process can be very enlightening! Use it as an examination of conscience from time to time when preparing for the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation.)
